There was one moment which stood out for Theodore Eliadis as he added more national glory to his trophy cabinet recently.
Eliadis is a star of the future after his last month of performances in athletics.
Last weekend at the Little Athletics nationals at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne the junior won two national titles in the shot put and discus.
He threw a 16.56m to win the shot put on Sunday after throwing 50.26m to win the discus on Saturday.
His performances added to the recent Athletics Australia nationals, in Brisbane, where he won gold in shot put and finished fourth in discus.
But the discus win at the Little Athletics nationals was special for the Berwick Athletics Club member.
He threw more than 50m for the first time.
“I just tried to stay calm, so I could focus on my throws,” Eliadis said.
“When my third throw went I got my PB and my first 50m in competition.
“I ran to my coach to tell him and he was happy.”
Eliadis completed a double in the shot put and almost broke his personal best.
He was 4cm away but admitted he had to deal with a wet surface, which hampered his shot put.
“When I was warming up my shot put kept getting stuck in the mud,” he said.
“I just kept the shot put dry with a towel and kept warming up to keep warm.”
Eliadis is now focusing on having a training block and having some time to rest as the athletics season is almost finished.
He was joined on the podium by Bendigo athlete Kai Norton who finished second.
The talented junior said he was happy to take silver as he was able to break his personal best in the event.
