It’s been a long time since Kingston Hawthorn’s top three teams have all won in the same round in Victorian Premier Cricket.

“We were actually talking about it last night and none of the life members could remember when it last happened,’’ Hawks coach Peter Marshall said this morning.

“Probably in ‘Funky’ Miller’s day as coach. That’s going back a few seasons.’’

Kingston Hawthorn took a trio of wins at the expense of Essendon on Saturday.

The First XI gained their first points of the season – and in doing so claimed a bonus point – after routing the Bombers at Walter Galt Reserve.

The Hawks put up 245 and ran through the visitors for 138.

Offie Prateek Patil nabbed 3-47 off his 10 overs and second-string slowies Matt Vorbach (2-24 off 10) and Abhi Jain (1-16 off 10) were exceptional in support.

With the bat, Jain got busy in the late overs, hitting 53 off 46 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six, to go with contributions from openers Thaveesh Attanayake (33) and Ramnett Dhindsa (23), captain Shorye Chopra (37) and Vorbach (20).

Marshall acknowledged Essendon wasn’t at full-strength – captain James Seymour was among the missing.

“But you can only beat what’s on the park,’’ he said. “We beat them comprehensively and with an even contribution.

“But as good as it was when we celebrated, I did tell a few blokes, probably five of them, that they left a big score out there. Someone should have gone on and got a big score.’’

In the Third XI, former Hawthorn AFL player Oliver Hanrahan played his first match as a Premier Cricket Hawk and captured 4-32 off nine overs and took three catches.

Marshall said there was a good feeling at the club and one stalwart told him last night that “the wheel is starting to turn’’.

“I said, ‘Well, there’s a lot of work to do, but we’ve got a plan’,’’ he said.

“We’ve got Carlton this week, so it doesn’t get any easier.

“But that’s fine, we’re looking forward to going up against a team of that quality.’’

Before then the Hawks will play Casey South Melbourne in Round 2 of the Victorian Super Slam at Walter Galt Reserve.

English star Jack Taylor, who clattered a century against Ringwood in Round 1 of the Slam, will play for the Hawks again.
