Numerous Southern United juniors will play for the Sharks

MORE than 40 Southern United players have been named in Southern Metro Sharks teams to compete in the junior state championships in July.

FORMER New Zealand Black Stick Matt L’Huillier slotted all four of southern United’s goals in its stirring 4-2 win over arch-rivals Mentone in their Men’s Premier League clash last week.

After the game, L’Huillier was named in the Victorian Vikings squad for the Australian Hockey League.

Meanwhile, 45 southern United players were named in southern Metro Sharks teams to compete in the junior state championships in July. They included first-year player Thomas Curtis, who was selected in the Under 13 boys team.

The weekend of matches produced highs and lows for southern United.

The undefeated Under 16 A and Under 14 Pennant teams continued their streaks with wins against Waverley.

Max Dalton (1 goal) and Nathan Ephraums (2) scored in the U16 A side’s 3-2 at the State Netball and Hockey centre.

The U14PSE won 2-0, with Nicola Brooks and Ted Harvey cutting through the midfield and two tap in goals from Jarrad Way and Josh Mulder sealed victory.

Southern United’s U16A girls won 5-3, with Charley Malligan scoring two goals and Carlotta Borcherding one. The U16 pennant side continued its progress with a second win; Bryce Marquardt in goals saving a last-minute goal to clinch a 3-1 win.

The men’s pennant A side had a 3-2 win over Greensborough, with Chris Silvers and Lachlan and Liam Eddington scoring a goal.

The pennant C side won 6-3. The women’s metro 2 side won 3-1.

The men’s Premier League team lost to Footscray 5-1.

Under 13 boys: Will Carruthers, Thomas Curtis, Ted Harvey, Craig Marais, Trent Symss, Christian van der Merwe, Carlin Walker, Davin Walker

Under 15 girls: Nicole Amiet, Olivia Downes, Georgia Eston, Emma Leighton, Charley Malligan, Emma Riley, Bridie Storton.

Under 15 boys: William Campbell, Max Dalton, Rhy Dyball, Cooper Green-Shiel, Tom Harris, Felix Harvey, Bradley Marais, Sam McLoughney, Josh Mulder, Ben Rogalsky.

Under 17 girls: Laura Cox, Roos Hoving, Laura Johnson, Ashleigh Jones, Lucy White.

Under 17 boys: Ashley Bingle, Benjamin Eddy, Nicholas Gregors, Till Henniges, Rees Leighton, Ryan Mravljak.
