Red Hill’s search for Simon Dart’s successor as club coach is said to be well advanced, with the Hillmen close to making an announcement.
It appears likely the new coach will come from within the club.
Dart resigned from the role last week after landing a job as Japanese Cricket Association high performance manager and national coach.
Red Hill advertised the vacant coaching position and received two applications.
“Probably at this stage we are leaning towards sticking with one of the guys we’ve already got,’’ Hillmen club official Brian Carroll said.
“We’ve got a couple of guys who we recruited recently that we had in mind to take over the role from Darty three or four years down the track when he was ready to pull the pin on it. That process has been sped up a bit.
“We thought it doesn’t hurt to see who’s out there, you never know who’s moved to the area and is looking for a local game of cricket.
“We weren’t looking to pinch someone from another club.
“We thought we’d put it out and see what sort of response we got.
“It was a fairly tame response to date.’’
Red Hill will return to the top flight MPCA Provincial competition in 2020-21 after claiming the Peninsula premiership last season.
Red Hill’s senior players Adam Slack and Glenn and Tom Collett all would be good choices to steer the club.
Dart was in favour of Red Hill appointing someone from within the club.
“They’re going to be fine,’’ he said.
“They’ve just got to back their own and believe in themselves. They’ve got all the pieces, they’ve got all the talent. They’ve already set the foundations.
“In my mind blue skies are ahead.’’
