Stunning centuries by Peninsula Old Boys captain Wade Pelzer and Sorrento skipper Bobby Wilson lit up Round 11 of MPCA Provincial on Saturday.

Pelzer hit a near-club record 182 not out against Mt Eliza, while Wilson’s 147 not out lifted the Sharks out of trouble against Langwarrin.

At Peninsula Grammar, left-handed Pelzer put away 23 boundaries and faced 233 balls to escort the Pirates to 8-267 against Mt Eliza.

He finished three runs short of the POB club record (held by Benny Coates in Provincial and also Nigel Labrooy in the seconds). When Coates made his 185 in 2007, Pelzer scored 103no.

“Unbelievable knock,’’ Pelzer’s teammate Johnny Forrest said of Saturday’s effort. “All of the Mounties guys said it was the best they had seen and it sure as hell was the best I’ve seen. Discipline, craftsmanship, leadership and grit all in one.’’

At Sorrento, Wilson blazed 19 fours and 2 sixes as he logged his second century of the season – and fifth overall for the Sharks.

And it was his most timely, rescuing Sorrento from 5-82 and guiding it to a respectable 254 – presenting ladder leaders Langwarrin with a stern test.

Wilson’s 147no came off 205 balls. He received sterling support from Leigh Poholke (20), Jake Wood (35) and Mark Dunball (23). Earlier, Langwarrin’s bowlers were on top, led by Travis Campbell (2-35), Adam Campbell (4-29 off 18) and Jake Prosser (4-58).

Baxter pacer Dale Irving snared 5-30 off 15.3 overs to rout Pearcedale for 102. Yohan Maddege (2-40) and Ryan O’Donnell (2-9) also impressed. In reply, Baxter hurried to 1-106 off 17 overs before declaring, with Chris Brittain (48no) and Maddege (39no) in cracking form. Batting again, Pearcedale was 2-52.

Flinders held the upper hand after dismissing Mornington for 166 at Cairns Reserve. Matt Burns (4-22 off 23) and Neil Barfuss (3-37) did the damage for the Sharks, who were 0-3 in reply. Mornington was 8-84 before Tom Panich (37), Rueben Higgins (29) and Charlie Parker (21no) led a late rally.

John Mitchell made 99 not out for Carrum.

In District, Carrum’s John Mitchell joined the 99 not out club as he helped the Lions to 5-259 against Seaford. The former Hawthorn Waverley batsman batted beautifully, putting away 10 boundaries and valuing his wicket, after going in at 1-27. Carrum coach Corey Hand provided resolute support with 86, the Mitchell and Hand stand worth 163.

An upset is brewing after Mt Martha routed third-placed Hastings for 120 and then reached 1-28 by stumps. Rhys Whitling (3-32) and Michael Clavin (3-26) and Kyle Bendle (2-19 off 20 overs) did the damage for the Reds, who are looking to snap a six-game losing streak. Luke Hewitt top scored for Hastings with 32.

Richard Brown delivered his best bowling performance of the season, taking 5-25 off 10 overs, to help Rosebud skittle Seaford Tigers for 124 in a crucial fourth-versus-fifth clash. Brian Doughty (3-35 off 26 overs) also bowled superbly. Skipper Dave James did best for the Tigers with 40. In reply, Rosebud was 3-49, with Pete Doughty on 16.

Thirteen wickets fell in a tense, seesawing battle between ladder leaders Delacombe Park and Heatherhill. Batting first, Heatherhill tumbled from 2-76 to 112 all out, Parkers leggie Nick Christides (4-19) and skipper Ricky Ramsdale (3-20) doing the damage. Kristian Miller did best for the Hills with 37. In reply, Delacombe Park slumped to 3-20 before going to stumps at 3-32. Jake Theobald had two wickets.
