Lyle House became Mt Eliza Cricket Club’s First XI games record holder when he helped the Mounties to victory over Flinders at Madsen Reserve on Saturday.
The 33-year-old surpassed Tony McWilliams’ long-standing mark of 178 1st X1 games.
Opening the bowling with his leggies, House snared 1-34 off eight overs to help restrict Flinders to 9-137 off 40 overs.
In reply, Mt Eliza was relatively untroubled as it cruised to victory, making 3-138 off 33 overs, on the back of a 78-run stand between opener Jordan Furhmann (52) and skipper Justin Grant (49no).
Earlier, Blake Hogan-Keogh (37), Charlie Burgess (30) and Tom Clements (26) were in the runs for the Sharks, while Nathaniel Grieef-Dickerson (2-11 off 7) impressed with the new ball for Mt Eliza.
Ben Clements went past 600 runs for the season when he made 92 not out as Mornington blazed 2-222 to set up a resounding win over Pearcedale (113). Matt Foon (42) and Brad McDonald (33no) were also in the runs. In reply, Pearcedale went from 1-34 to 6-35 — losing 6-1 in one of the most dramatic batting collapses in the recent memory.
Glenn Wood (3-26) was the pick of the bowlers as the Bulldogs banked their fourth win in a row to consolidate second spot.
Sorrento beat Baxter for the second time this season to take an important step towards locking in finals action.
Opener Jedd Falck (60) batted beautifully, supported by Leigh Poholke (35) and Bobby Wilson (23), as the Sharks put up 7-170 after being sent in at Greg Beck Oval.
Baxter leggie Yohan Maddege snared 3-37.
In reply, Baxter reached 0-36 before Jake Wood (24) struck twice in quick succession. Justin Bridgeman (26) and Trav Sawers (22) got Baxter to 3-99 before Wilson completely turned the game on its head, grabbing 5-17 off 5.2 overs with his offies as Baxter collapsed to be all out for 133.
Sorrento (7-3) is in third spot, while Baxter (6-4) remains fourth.
Tom Hussey clipped 49 as Langwarrin (9-164) beat Peninsula Old Boys (129) to remain two games clear on top of the ladder.
Travis Campbell (35), Matt Prosser (22) and Taylor Smith (21) chipped in before the comp’s leading wicket taker Leigh Paterson grabbed 3-36 to take the wind out of the Pirates’ sails. POB skipper Wade Pelzer showed fight with 56 not out.
In Peninsula, Baden Powell scored its fifth successive win after a strong batting display against Pines. Rhys Elmi (60 off 78 balls), Coen Chernishoff (49 off 88), Craig Entwistle (30no off 29) and Josh Waldron (27 off 38) helped the Braves to 6-183 off 40 overs before dismissing Pines for 166, with Michael Ballard (3-31) and Nathan Rice (3-34) doing the damage.
Somerville kept its finals hopes alive with an upset 15-run win over third-placed Red Hill. Sean Parker (43), Nick Marshall (41) and Justin Allsopp (39) batted well as the Eagles posted 7-170 before Jayde Herrick (3-21) and Marshall (3-28) helped dismiss the Hillmen for 155, despite a fighting 75 off 94 balls from recruit Luke Robertson.
Dan Polson clipped 40 not out as Main Ridge (7-116) reeled in Crib Point’s 114.
Justin McCleary (66no, with 6 fours and 4 sixes) and Ben Williams (44) bankrolled Moorooduc’s win over Long Island. Ducs skipper Rob Lancaster sealed victory with 5-19.
In District, Hastings’ in-form batting line-up plundered another big total to set up a 71-run win over Seaford.
Skipper Rob Hearn (55) led the way as the Blues blasted 6-204 off 40 overs. Luke Hewitt (48), Matt Foy (40no) and Patrick Wilson (23) also struck the ball crisply.
The target proved too many for Seaford (123). Tom Finn (2-11), Isi Dias (2-16), Hasith Perera (2-12) and Jayden Regan (2-37) shared the wickets for the third-placed Hastings.
Jon Guthrie peeled off 64 not out to steer ladder leader Delacombe Park to a four-wicket win over Seaford Tigers. After Ash Mills smacked 73 not out to help the Tigers put up 8-151, Guthrie engineered a well-time run chase as the Parkers (6-155) achieved victory with three overs to go. Daniel Streker crunched 30 not out at No. 8, with 4 fours and 1 six.
Heatherhill gun Kristian Miller made 88 to set up his side’s 19-run win over Mt Martha. Jason Hinde, after making 13no to help the Hills to 9-136, ripped through the Mt Martha top-order to take 3-22, supported by Brad Mur (3-31), as the Reds were dismissed for 117.
Carrum scored a much-needed win after shooting out Rosebud for 117 and then hitting 5-121 off 38 overs. Josh Shaw (4-31) and Rory Brown (3-31) did the damage before Corey Hand (44) and Jake D’Atri (30no) anchored the run chase.
In Sub-District, a 105-run second-wicket partnership between David Dervan (72) and Ryan Lynch (69) guided Carrum Downs to victory over Tyabb.
Dromana (6-171) consolidated fourth spot with a resounding win over Rye (116). Shane Ray had a good game for the Demons, taking 2-31 and making 23.
Ben King (41 and 2-21) starred in Balnarring’s win over Tootgarook. Miles Shepherd (3-33) and Lachlan Barton (25) also did well for the Saints.
Competition leading run scorer Stuart Plunkett cracked 46 to help Frankston YCW (6-158) beat Skye (8-106). Craig Burch (3-14) and Sam Fulton (3-26) were in the wickets for YCW.
