New coach, fresh faces…
Frankston Peninsula pre-season training has begun with an air of hope and excitement.
Former Dandenong premiership player Paul Boraston has taken the Heat coaching reins and — after two Sunday sessions, with turn outs of 39 and 43 — he says he likes what he sees.
“We’ve got more numbers than we ever had at Dandenong,’’ Boraston said.
“We always struggled to get 20-odd at Dandy.
“It’s good to get everyone there and enthusiastic but at the end of the day it’s all about the wins when the season comes.’’
With spots in the First and Second XI up for grabs, players are putting in the hard yards in a bid to impress the new coach.
Training has been held at Frankston High, with plenty of running and fielding drills.
Among those who have caught the eye is Pines paceman Patrick Jackson, who accepted an invitation to have a run at pre-season.
Boraston is delighted to see him.
“He said he’ll do the pre-season and hopefully after he attends a month or two he likes the feel of the place and wants to give Premier Cricket a crack,’’ Boraston said of Jackson.
“I’ve heard good reports about him, and his brothers potentially might come down as well.
“I’ve heard some good stuff (about Patrick) — stats-wise he’s done really well at the local level. If we can gain someone like him that will just strengthen the bowling depth.’’

Boraston hopes to attract more players from the MPCA.
“We’re working hard with the local comp, we want to try and get that relationship strong, and make it a destination club for the area, try and get the best talent in,’’ he said.
He said the Heat still hoped to land a key signing or two.
Frankston Peninsula training will continue on Sundays for the next month or so before indoor training starts in August.
Former Australian all-rounder John Hastings has been helping out at training.
