From Rosebud to the Renegades, Elly Donald is ready to blast off on another cricket adventure.
The talented all-rounder is headed to the Women’s Big Bash after signing with the Melbourne Renegades as a replacement player.
The 59-game WBBL season will be played entirely in a Sydney hub from Sunday, October 25.
Donald will leave on October 4 and spend seven weeks in the Big Bash hub in Sydney.
“I’m pretty excited, it’s a bit nerve racking because it’s nine weeks all up that we’re away from home,’’ she said.
“But really excited to be a part of the Big Bash and the hub.’’
Donald was a member of the Melbourne Stars squad in 2018 but didn’t get to play a WBBL game.
She says she will be ready to swing into action if she got an opportunity next month.
“Fingers crossed. You never know what’s going to happen especially with the hub, everything’s a bit different,’’ she said.
Donald is currently in isolation before travelling to Sydney, where she will do two weeks of hotel quarantine before the tournament.
She is doing “iso’’ at a house in Doreen with fellow state squad members Amy Vine and Zoe Griffiths.
The trio are doing their best to stay sane, talking lots of cricket and trying to work out who’s the best cook.
“Haven’t figured that out yet,’’ Donald laughed.
“I think we’ll all share it around I guess.’’
Many of Australia’s World Cup-winning T20 squad will play the BBL, including Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry.
