It was an up and down few days for Parkdale captain Dale Elmi.

On Saturday he hit his first century for the club, a fine 110 against Carnegie.

In the previous round he’d made 49 as the Dales defeated Beaumaris.

But the result was later reversed after Parkdale was found to have exceeded the player-points cap.

MyCricket now records that Parkdale forfeited to Beauie.

Elmi joined the club this season after a long spell at Premier level with Frankston Peninsula and in five hands he’s now up to 248 runs.

His 110 on Saturday came off 109 deliveries, featured 11 fours and 2 sixes, and led Parkdale to 5-216.

Elmi and Ashish Harsolia (55 off 87 balls) put on 144 for the first wicket.

The Neggie fell for 153 in their reply, with captain Abhi Sharma continuing his good form with 59 off 70 balls from No 3.

Ryan O’Connor and Tej Gandhi both took three wickets for Parkdale.

A trio of former St Kilda players was to the fore for South Caulfield as it defeated Bonbeach.

Sent in, South cracked 7-218 off its 40 overs, thanks mostly to 72 from captain Will Russell and 59 from his ex-St Kilda teammate Lewis Mildenhall.

Russell faced only 66 balls and cuffed 3 fours and 3 sixes as his team again covered for the absence of champion Brad Erasmus, out with a foot injury.

Another former Saint, swing bowler Henry Hall, then had his say on the match, snaring 3-29 off 6.2 overs as Bonbeach was rounded up for 166.

Too many of the home side’s players made starts but failed to convert them into substantial innings.

Reigning premier Hampton slipped to a fourth loss, this time against Bentleigh as it struggles to get its season going.

The Demons put up 8-179, Shane Jeffree leading the way with 75 off 107 balls before being run out.

Skipper Jarrod Dowling chipped in with 31.

Young Tom Marron, with 4-45 off eight overs, had the most success of the bowlers for Hampton.

Demons off-spinner Greg Buckley answered with 5-18 off 7.5 overs as the Seahorses were knocked over for 138, the dismissals of key men Daniel Forbes (26) and Charlie Ross (23) sapping momentum from the innings.

Englishman Buckley hit 81 in the previous round for Bentleigh and is proving a tremendous pick-up.

He was with Lancashire and bowled leg-spin, and is now living in Melbourne with his young family.

Bentleigh captain Jarrad Dowling said the sons of Buckley and club stalwart Rob Ciccarella had become friends, and had led Buckley to the Demons.

“Obviously we didn’t have a pre-season to get to know him but we’re starting to work it all out,’’ he said.

“We’re starting to click a lot better as a team and Greg is a huge part of that. He’s very highly skilled. He’s actually a leg-spinner and he was in the Lancashire system … he’s well credentialed, that’s for sure. He can bowl off-spin as well, which he’s doing at the moment, little darts, really strategic. He understands this level of cricket. He’s a good thinker of the game.’’

Asked how the competition was holding up without overseas players, Dowling said: “I think some teams are finding it harder than others.

“It’s a good example of some clubs relying too heavily on them. We’ve certainly had our fair share (of imports) but we’ve also been focusing on the younger guys who are right on the cusp of transitioning into the senior team.

“I think it’s been good for the competition that the teams have had to top up with their youth. It’s going to be a benefit in the long-term.’’

In the remaining game Beaumaris, with captain Sam Coates crafting 58 not out, hit 5-133 in reply to Murrumbeena’s 9-9-130.

Spinners Chris Hall (3-25 off eight overs) and Cameron Watts (3-24 off eight) kept clamps on the Beena.
