A couple of newcomers will be keen to impress when the MPCA Country Week side meets Frankston Peninsula in a 50-over game at Jubilee Park on Sunday.
The game will be a key lead up to the annual statewide carnival in February for the MPCA, which is striving for back-to-back titles.
For the Heat, pride will be at stake.
The MPCA side will include former Heat paceman Jake Wood, who is playing with Sorrento this season, and ex-West Gippsland run machine Tom Hussey, now with Langwarrin.
Bobby Wilson will again captain the MPCA side and says this weekend’s hit out against the Heat will be crucial.
“It’s a good challenge,’’ Wilson said.
“I think they’re going to have a decent side. It will be good to come up against some quality opposition.’’
Mt Eliza all-rounder Justin Grant will step up to be MPCA vice-captain (and also a selector, alongside Wilson and Brett Hudgson).
Country Week regulars John Forrest and Wade Pelzer will again line up.
Several key players have ruled themselves out of the Country Week carnival, including Mornington maestro Ben Clements, Simon Dart, Daniel Warwick, Chris Brittain, Lyle House, Matt Foon and former Victorian fast bowler Jayde Herrick.
