When Frankston South woman Pru Drago finished high school, she knew exactly what she wanted to do.
The sporty teenager wanted to help people in the best way she knew how — by showing them how to keep fit and active.
Now 34, Ms Drago has been transforming the physical and mental health of her beloved clients for more than a decade, clocking 14 years in the personal training industry.
The beloved Peninsula Aquatic and Recreation Centre employee of six years was this week crowned the Leader’s best personal trainer of the southeast.
In second place was Move Strong Fitness Factory Seaford trainer Sammi Porter, followed by Core Health Clubs Frankston trainer Georgia Mahar.
“I’ve always been really into fitness and always been a real people person … so I turned my interests into my passion,” Ms Drago told the Leader.
The mother of two created the centre’s widely successful eight week challenge four years ago, which has since transformed the bodies and mindsets of committed participants.
The challenge has a core focus on mental health, nutrition and sleep as well as resistance training.
“Whether clients are wanting to just learn how to lift properly, watch their body weight, fit into their wedding dress or just want to feel their best … seeing others achieve whatever their goal is the whole reason I do it,” Ms Drago said.
“I’m now running the challenge with others on my team … I’ve evolved doing what I love but I love helping other trainers create themselves too.”
Peninsula Leisure chief executive Tim Gledhill, who is also a client of Ms Drago’s, told the Leader the hugely popular trainer was one of the centre’s most beloved team members.
“She has an incredible ability to develop strong relationships with her clients and is so dedicated to their health and wellbeing,” Mr Gledhill said.
“I’ve been a client of Pru’s for a number of years and have seen first-hand how she tailors sessions to the needs of the client, pushing you to achieve your goals but always having a lot of fun along the way.
“The entire team at PARC is so proud of Pru and congratulates her on this fantastic achievement.”
Ms Drago has also adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, kickstarting one-one-one and two-on-one personal training sessions outside her workplace and in line with Chief Health Officer instructions.
Ms Drago said she was thrilled to be reunited with her clients who come from all backgrounds, ages and fitness levels.
“It’s a great, bubbly, positive and nice place to be especially during COVID-19 which is obviously taking a toll on everyone,” she said.
“It’s great to be back and making people happy again.”
