A man has been busted speeding in an unroadworthy car with a police-baiting bumber sticker, while a father-of-three was busted drug-driving with his kids in the car.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA

DROMANA

A man, 24, has been busted speeding in an unroadworthy car with a bumper sticker saying “cops don’t like this” on the back. Somerville Highway Patrol police clocked the man’s car doing 115km/h on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Dromana. The man told police he was on his way to a car show. Police placed a yellow “canary” sticker on the windscreen of the man’s Toyota 86, requiring him to get a full roadworthy certificate. He was also fined $343 and lost three demerit points. “If you intend modifying your car, please make sure the modifications do not take it outside of the standards for registration,” a police spokesperson said. “Driving within the speed limit is also a good idea.”

ROSEBUD

Police are searching for a person who lost cash in Rosebud last month. The cash was found in an envelope with a personal message written on the front and handed into the Rosebud police station in the last week. LANGWARRIN

Homicide Squad detectives charged a man after the death of a child in Langwarrin on September 2. Emergency services were called to a Potts Rd home just after 4pm following reports a child was injured. Crews worked on a two-year-old boy but he could not be revived. A 32-year-old Langwarrin man was charged with murder. A 34-year-old woman arrested at the scene was released without charge.

FRANKSTON

Police are seeking witnesses to an assault at Monash University Frankston on August 30. A person was assaulted at a barbecue area in the university grounds about 3.30pm. Anyone with information is urged to phone Acting Sergeant Julia Starkey on 9784 5555.

SANDRINGHAM

Veteran Bayside copper Senior Sergeant Jim Jackson has retired after 43 years in the job. A farewell was held Sen-Sergeant Jackson at Bayside police station on August 28. A spokesperson said many police and community representatives gave glowing speeches about Sen-Sergeant Jackson, who was well-liked in the community. Local Neighbourhood Watch president Philip Lovel thanked Sen-Sergeant Jackson for his commitment to their events and activities. “The involvement of the police with community groups is very important from both sides,” he said. Senior Sergeant Darren Cooper will take over the reins of Bayside’s uniform division.

KINGSTON/BAYSIDE

Licensed firearm holders should expect a visit from their local police as part of Operation Highscore. The operation, which kicked off on September 1, involves Moorabbin Divisional Firearm Officers, Proactive Policing Unit and Frontline Tasking Unit attending the homes of licensed firearm holders for compliance checks. “We know the vast majority of firearm licence holders are responsible and understand the serious responsibility which comes with firearm ownership,” Acting-Inspector Kim Jung said. The operation will run until November 25.

MOORABBIN

A man has allegedly stolen a bicycle from Moorabbin railway station about 8.40am on May 8. Police would like to speak to a man described as caucasian and aged in his 20-30s in relation to the incident. The man was wearing a dark blue Nike cap, grey hooded jumper, black jacket, green pants, white sneakers and carrying a black backpack and a black satchel bag.

DINGLEY VILLAGE

A Glen Iris woman, 93, has died after a collision in Dingley Village on August 19. Police have been told a woman drove through a stop sign on the Westall Rd extension, hitting a Mazda sedan and Toyota Prado about 3.30pm. The driver, a 56-year-old Templestowe woman, was taken to hospital with serious facial injuries. The Mazda driver, a 65-year-old from Glen Iris, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 93-year-old woman, a passenger in the Mazda, died in hospital. The people travelling in the Toyota received minor injuries and were checked at the scene. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.

GREATER DANDENONG

NOBLE PARK

A father has tested positive for drugs after being pulled over by police with his three children in a car in Noble Park. Dandenong Highway Patrol pulled over the car on Memorial Drive on August 27. The father did not hold a driver's licence, tested positive for drugs and had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. His car was impounded for 30 days and he will face court at a later date.

DANDENONG SOUTH

A man has been busted for speeding in Dandenong South on September. Dandenong Highway Patrol police pulled over the man’s car on Kitchen Rd after he was observed travelling at a “fast rate of speed and “driving in a dangerous manner”. The man’s vehicle was impounded at a cost of $1066. He was charged with conduct endangering life and will face court at a later

date.

CASEY

HAMPTON PARK

A police dog has helped arrest a man who did a runner on a booze bus in Hampton Park. Police pulled over the man’s car after he tried to avoid the bus in Pound Rd by turning into a side street on August 30. The driver, who had two outstanding warrants, got out of the car and tried to run away. The police dog caught him and he was charged with several offences. Police also nabbed motorists for several other traffic offences, including drink driving and drug driving, while the booze bus was set up.

CRANBOURNE EAST

An unlicensed driver, 24, has tested positive for drugs in Cranbourne East on September 2. Casey Highway Patrol police pulled over the man’s car and asked him for his licence. But the man had never held one. He will face court at a later date.

A man and a woman suspected of being involved in the hit-run death of a student near Monash University’s Clayton campus have been charged. Police believe Nisali Perera, 20, was crossing Wellington Road near Scenic Boulevard when she was hit about 9.45pm on August 29. She died at the scene and it is alleged the driver of the vehicle failed to stop. Detectives arrested the pair in Officer on September 3. Both were taken to Dandenong police station for questioning. The woman, 33, was charged with being an accessory to the commission of an indictable offence. The man, 37, was charged with culpable driving causing death, failure to stop after a fatal collision, failure to render assistance, and driving while disqualified.

PAKENHAM

A boy has been flown to hospital with possible head and leg injuries after being hit by a car in Pakenham on September 4. The teen boy was struck while crossing the Princes Highway near King St about 3.30pm. The female driver of the small sedan that hit the boy stopped at the scene to help. Police and paramedics attended the crash site.

CASEY/GREATER DANDENONG

Almost 400 young people have been arrested following a police crackdown on youth crime. Police Superintendent Paul Hollowood said the crackdown, Operation Tidal, included producing a “highly visible police presence” across Casey, Greater Dandenong and Cardinia. “This is a strategic approach to sharing information to ensure we have an intelligence-led approach to our enforcement of youth offending in this area,” Supt Hollowood said. “We know crimes such as robberies and public order offending has been a concern to the community and Operation Tidal has been developed to specifically target these issues.”
