Son allegedly threatened to kill family, gave mum birthday gift full of bullet holes

He was on bail for an alleged threatening outburst against his family when police say he did it again, this time sending his mum a menacing message. Now he’s staying behind bars.

Raymond Harrison allegedly threatened to murder his family and menaced his mum by returning his birthday gift full of bullet holes.

A son who allegedly threatened to murder his family and menaced his mum by returning his birthday gifts full of bullet holes has been refused bail.

Police say Raymond Harrison was a serious danger to the welfare of his mother, sister and brother after telling them he was going to kill all three of them.

He also allegedly drove at his sister’s car before swerving and smashing into a caravan.

Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday heard his latest alleged outburst against his family occurred on May 6.

The Cranbourne man, 21, allegedly went to his mum’s house ranting and raving because she never returned his messages while he had been in hospital being treated for diabetes.

Harrison tried to barge in, telling his family he was going to stab, bash and club them, before he fled.

On the same day he had allegedly returned to his mum the birthday gifts she had sent him a week before – a flask and a lighter – with bullet holes in them.

He was on bail at the time over another alleged attack earlier this year.

Harrison was soon arrested, and has been remanded in custody since.

Police say on January 17 he was at the family home when he argued with his siblings and mother before saying he was going to kill them.

Officers allege he then jumped in his unregistered car, drove up the street before doing a burnout and raced back towards the house.

Harrison allegedly aimed his vehicle at his sister’s car before slowing and swerving at the last minute, instead careering into his onsite caravan where he lived.

When police searched his home, they allegedly uncovered a rifle scope.

His defence lawyer said Harrison had type 1 diabetes and mental health issues that could make him behave irrationally if he didn’t take his medications.

He said there was no direct evidence Harrison had access to a firearm and the amateur mechanic could have made the holes using his car-fixing tools.

He said some of the charges were in dispute, any remand time was more onerous for Harrison due to his diabetes and mental health issues, and there would be a significant delay before any contested hearing.

Magistrate Charles Tan said Harrison was simply too much of a risk to his family.

“He has been displaying dangerous behaviour, has potential access to firearms, and if bailed today, there is nothing in place to support him,” Mr Tan said.

“That animosity (towards family members) makes him an unacceptable risk.”

Bail was revoked and Mr Harrison was remanded in custody until May 19.
