A woman upset at having limited access to her grandchild turned on her own daughter during a bizarre incident in the middle of the street, a court has heard.
Sharon Lisa Bonett pleaded guilty to an unlawful assault charge at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
The court heard on October 7 last year the Cranbourne 42-year-old attacked her offspring after her daughter had a minor car crash near her mother’s house.
Bonett went to the scene, yelling and abusing her daughter as she got out of the vehicle.
But instead of helping her she launched an attack and twice punched her in the face.
Stunned passers-by jumped in and held Bonett back to stop her continuing her clenched-fist onslaught.
Other family members got wind of the attack and walked Bonett back to her home.
Police had been called and arrested her, but she declined to be interviewed.
Bonett has a prior for assaulting someone else back in 2016, for which she was given a good behaviour bond.
Defence lawyer Yih-Laine Teen said there had been issues over her client being allowed to see her grandchild involving several members of the family.
Magistrate Fiona Stewart said while there may have been some “disquiet” and “dispute” over Bonett’s access, her reaction was completely unjustified.
“The way to go about it (seeing her granddaughter) is not to punch her daughter in the face,” Ms Stewart said.
“This is a reasonably nasty incident, it happened in a public area.
“Her history reflects that she resorts to violence when she is pressed, I hope the court doesn’t see her again.”
Bonett was fined $800, with no conviction recorded.
