But our love of food is not limited to fancy restaurants or expensive dining experiences – food trucks and markets reign supreme in Melburnian foodie culture.
We have compiled a list of some of the best food trucks in the city’s southeast – showcasing that a dining experience can pack a punch in both quality and flavour in any kitchen environment.
Señor Gusto
Back for the summer season, Señor Gusto brings the flavours of Latin American to the southeastern suburbs.
Serving up popular and delicious dishes including birria tacos, pupusas, grilled meat packs, tamales and more, Señor Gusto is a must visit for anyone looking for a quick bite in the southeast.
Señor Gusto has a permanent location at Factory 3/20-26 Enterprise Ave in Berwick and is open from 6pm till late every Friday night.
Tacos LA
Tacos LA is a travelling truck of flavour mixing Mexican food with Californian style, run by owner and chef Angel Farias.
Newer to the Melbourne food truck scene, Tacos LA has a fully stocked menu including everything from chorizo tacos to beef brisket tostadas.
You can find Tacos LA at the Trinity St Kilda food truck park at 2 Brighton St, St Kilda.
Greek on the Street
Another crowd pleaser found at Trinity St Kilda is Greek on the Street.
Bringing the taste of European summer to the streets of Melbourne, the Greek on the Street food truck serves up open plate souvlakis, chicken skewers, lamb ribs and more.
You can find Greek on the Street at 2 Brighton St, St Kilda.
Ostrich and Egg
Bringing the tastes of South African street food to the southeast, Ostrich and Egg is a food truck that leaves hungry customers spoiled for choice.
With masala salt fries, sweet and sour pickled fish, two varieties of bunny chow and Cape Town doughnuts among the options to choose from, it’s easy to see why this food truck is hot in demand.
Ostrich and Egg is currently parked up at 25 Clifton St Prahran, and open 5pm till 9pm Wednesday – Friday, 12pm til 9pm on Saturday and 12pm – 4pm on Sundays.
Mr Momo
Mr Momo’s is one of the best southeastern food trucks, serving up handmade Nepalese dumplings at markets and festivals.
With a variety of styles on their menu, dumpling lovers can take a bit out of vegan dumplings, pan fried chicken dumplings and even offer frozen packs to take home for later.
Mr Momo’s can be found this summer at the 5ifth Makers Markets in Chelsea’s Bicentennial Park on Scotch Parade and at Urban Ground in Mordialloc on a rotating basis.
Dingo Ate My Taco
What do you get when you take an iconic phrase from Aussie history and mix it with Tex-Mex cuisine? The Dingo Ate My Taco food truck of course!
It’s the food truck that brings foodies the quesebirria – a delicious cross between a quesadilla and a taco.
With fresh made corn-tortillas pan fried in meat braising liquid, filled and dipped in rich consomme, you can get your teeth into anything from the Dingo Ate My Taco menu at the Dingo Kitchen at 417 St Kilda Rd.
St Gerry’s
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, the St Gerry’s food truck is the place for you.
Serving up only the most delicious fresh-made Greek doughnuts, these self-professed Greek doughnut masters have something on the menu for everyone.
With flavours including honey-cinnamon and walnut, Nutella and white chocolate and Oreo, St Gerry’s food truck is not one to be missed.
You can find St Gerry’s at the Urban Ground food truck park in Mordialloc on 1 Lamana Rd.
Nem’n’Nem
The flavours of Vietnamese street food are being released onto the Melbourne streets by the popular Nem’n’Nem food truck.
With everything from bao buns to open bowls with vermicelli salads, Nem’n’Nem is filling the needs of every foodie craving Vietnamese food.
You can find Nem’n’Nem at 7/12 Mills St in Cheltenham or book them for your own private function.
Godvari Food Truck
Bringing Indian food to the servo food truck party, Godvari’s in Clayton South is a local favourite.
Serving up “true Indian village food”, Godvari’s is open betwe 6.30pm and 11pm everynight.
Offering Punugulu, Dosa and chicken curry, Byriani and more, you can find Godvari’s at 1358 Centre Rd, Clayton South inthe BP service station’s carpark.
Lokka Food Truck
All the way from the jewel of the Indian Ocean to Melbourne, Lokka is bring the bright colours and flavours of Sri Lankan food to Berwick streets.
Serving up open plates of rice, sticky BBQ chicken & pork lingus sausage with chilli paste, hot butter cuttlefish and more, Sri Lankan street food has never looked so good.
