A peaceful day for families at Seaford beach has quickly turned ugly after two people were arrested and a police officer allegedly assaulted following a clash with drunken beachgoers.

A police officer has been allegedly assaulted and two people arrested after an altercation at Seaford foreshore.

It comes after police were called in to break-up a group of alleged boozed-up thugs who crowded near the pier on Tuesday, November 10 about 4.30pm

Parents and children were left shocked as they witnessed the thugs begin to allegedly fight with officers before they were doused in capsicum spray.

Dramatic footage sent to Leader shows two police officers allegedly restraining a person, while dozens of youths swarmed around them and swore at officers.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said while police were dispersing the crowd a police officer was assaulted.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the officer’s injuries.

“Police received reports of people drinking alcohol along the Seaford foreshore on Tuesday about 4.30pm,” a spokeswoman said.

“Police attended the scene where they located a large number of people drinking on the beach.

“Two people were arrested at the scene.”

Dozens of concerned residents took to Facebook to express their shock on Tuesday night with some claiming the incident was the third fight over one week.

“Another huge fight at Seaford pier tonight. Have just picked my son up … police everywhere,” one woman said.

“(The incident was) the third time in a week. My kids love going there … but enough is enough. No more. What is wrong with these people.”

“We went to a quieter spot between Frankston and Seaford pier after last night’s awful experience at Seaford pier … this is getting out of control,” another woman said.

The violence comes after gangs took to nearby Chelsea and Mordialloc beaches to brawl as the temperature heated up last year, with concerned Ambulance Victoria paramedics telling the Leader they dreaded “the next hot day”.

One paramedic told the Leader they had lost count of call-outs to beach brawls and boozy violence between 2017-19 and warned “it’s only a matter of time before it happens again.”.
