School Captains 2023: Nokutenda Kwenda and Ryan Karunaratna from Casey Grammar

Schools across Melbourne are unveiling the voted school captains for 2023. Meet the next generation of leaders from Casey Grammar.

While school is winding down, or in many cases, has finished for the year, the captains for 2023 are being announced

Casey Grammar has joined the ranks of school’s announcing their incoming captains —

Nokutenda Kwenda (a.k.a Noku) and Ryan Karunaratna.

Noku said her main goal for 2023 as school captain was to serve the peers who elected her.

“My main goal for 2023 is the leave a legacy of service while being a true voice for the Casey Grammar student body,” she said.

Ryan said he had similar goals and was “determined” to have a positive influence.

“My goal is to do well in my studies and achieve an ATAR above 90,” he said.

“I am determined to have a positive influence throughout our school and to continue to be a good role model.”

The pair are looking forward to giving back to their school community, on both academic and social levels.

“As school captains, we’d like to promote activities through interests or academic events that bind us together,” Noku said.

“We also want to endorse ideas of how we can all give back to our local communities, and be of service to those around us.”

Ryan said they duo would also like to continue to encourage inclusiveness in the school.

“As school captain, I’d like to assist with removing social boundaries between year levels,” he said.

“I hope to implement new events and activities, so we can improve the everyday life of students at Casey Grammar.”

“I want our leadership team to have a huge positive impact on the school and leave a legacy for future captains.”

Ryan said he couldn’t wipe the grin off his face when he found out he’d been elected school captain.

“When I was told I was elected I couldn’t stop smiling,” he said.

“I was so excited to have the position of school captain in my final year of high school.”

Noku said she was also looking forward to 2023 as school captain.

“It felt amazing and gratifying being elected,” she said.

“My family’s reaction to the news definitely made me proud. I think my hard work paid off, and I am looking forward to working with the leadership team.”
