A 16-year-old boy is facing a long road back after suffering significant head injuries in a motorcycle crash. Here’s how to help.

Friends and family are rallying around a 16-year-old-boy after a shocking motorcycle crash in Mt Martha.

Sam Barkley suffered severe head injuries on Sunday night when his motorbike veered off Harrap Rd and collided with a tree near the Dunns Rd intersection.

His aunt Peta Barkley said Sam would need at least six months intensive rehabilitation.

“Sam is 16 and has great dreams and much potential for his future, which now sits in the balance,” she said.

Ms Barkley has started raising money to help cover his ongoing medical bills.

In two days the appeal has raised more than $11,000 of the $50,000 target.

“Any contributions will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way to help support (Sam) and his family as Sam recovers to his full potential,” she said.

Police are investigating the crash which is believed to have happened between 10pm Sunday and 5am Monday.
