A law-flouting lead-foot teenager repeatedly caught speeding, and driving while suspended in an unregistered car, racked up so many demerit points he cost his mum her licence too.
Alex Davis, who has only been on the road for about a year, continually sped — in his own and his mother’s cars — and then ignored a suspension four times in as many weeks.
The 19-year-old P-plater not only lost his own licence for driving too quickly but also his mum’s, as neither of them informed VicRoads that he was the driver within the mandatory 28 days.
It meant she had to wear the points and a licence suspension.
Davis pleaded guilty to six illegal driving charges at Dromana Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.
The court heard Davis was pulled over by police in the Woolworths Rosebud’s carpark after they recognised him as a suspended driver on May 23.
The Rosebud security guard’s licence was suspended for three months on May 2 after he accrued too many demerit points.
He told officers he was going to get bread and milk and not aware he had been suspended.
But Davis had been caught in an unregistered car while suspended in Jetty Rd, Rosebud on May 15 — and the week before in the same car in the same street.
Each time he said he did not know about the suspension, even though he had already been told by police he wasn’t allowed to drive.
And then, on June 10, he was pulled over yet again — this time in his own driveway after having been driving his mum’s car.
Davis’s defence lawyer said his client “didn’t understand” how the suspension system worked at the time but was now fully aware of the seriousness of driving without a valid licence.

Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge said it was “so disrespectful” how Davis had continually ignored his suspension.
“He’s on his P-plates, and already at the age of 19 he’s lost his licence for demerit points,” Mr Lethbridge said.
“And then four times he drives while suspended.”
Davis was convicted and placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond, with the condition he pay $1500 to the court fund and do a road trauma awareness seminar.
He was also suspended from driving again, this time for two months.
Mr Lethbridge warned him his next driving indiscretion would likely land him in prison, and that he should use Ubers to get to his job.
“If you come back (to court) again, I’ll send you to jail,” he said.
