A drug relapse has cost a carpenter dear, with him not only losing his just-bought substances but also having to chip in to a court fund.
Reece John Fisher was behind the wheel of his work vehicle when a routine police patrol intercepted him.
Officers saw six gun cartridges in his car and when they searched him they uncovered a 50ml bottle with a vet’s address on it and two small bags of meth in his pockets.
The 34-year-old Carrum Downs carpenter pleaded guilty to two drug possessions and one ammunition possession charge at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The court heard it was around 8pm on February 26 last year when officers pulled over Fisher’s Ford.
They saw the ammo in a driver’s side console and then found the suspicious bottle of liquid and the deal bags on him.
Fisher said the cartridges were left over from a “camping trip” and he had recently bought the drugs.
He said the bottle contained liquid ketamine to “heat up to a powder and snort” and that it had cost him $450.
He said the two bags contained ice, for which he had paid another $300.
Defence lawyer Louise Naylor said Fisher knew he shouldn’t have had the ammunition as he had done a gun safety course and it was a “foolish mistake” for him to keep it in his work vehicle.
She said he previously had a drug problem and on this occasion had relapsed, hitting “rock bottom” after a relationship breakdown.
She said the arrest was a “wake-up call” for her client, who now goes to the gym, has a clean lifestyle and is committed to changing his ways.
Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge told Fisher the combination of drugs and ammunition was a bad one, and luckily for him there was no gun involved.
He said his lack of priors and current abstinence were factors in his favour – this time.
“If there is any more offending, and it involves a firearm, you will receive a term of imprisonment,” Mr Lethbridge said.
Fisher was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond and ordered to pay $1000 to the court fund.
The drugs and ammunition were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.
