A belligerent boozer who randomly attacked a stranger, raining blows down on his head while he lay on the ground, was so sloshed she didn’t remember doing it.

Mary Munnier was also as drunk as skunk when she spat at her former boyfriend and slapped his mum.

And the Dandenong 20-year-old breached bail by being found highly intoxicated loitering near a library with a gang of gooners.

Munnier pleaded guilty to charges of assault, criminal damage, drunk in a public place and bail breaches at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard on August 10 this year Munnier and a mate were extremely drunk when they rampaged down Lonsdale St in Dandenong, yelling abuse and hammering shop windows.

A good Samaritan asked if the pair were OK, only to be met with extreme alcohol-fuelled anger.

Munnier and her cowardly friend then launched a vicious attack on the victim.

They punched him, wrestled him to the ground and kicked him as he lay there desperately trying to protect his head.

Other passers-by called police and officers quickly arrived on the scene to find Munnier still standing over him.

She had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was so intoxicated she couldn’t be interviewed.

When she was later asked why she attacked the stranger, she said she didn’t remember it.

The victim was taken to hospital but luckily didn’t sustain any serious injuries despite receiving at least 30 punches and kicks to his head and body.

Munnier was bailed to a Dandenong motel on condition she didn’t drink, but she couldn’t abide by that and just days later was found staggering around the streets, with a breath test showing she was .223.

And in May this year she had gone to her former partner’s home and after spitting on and slapping the man’s mother, she also spat at him before ripping the front gate off its hinges.

Defence lawyer Danielle Keogh said her client had no priors and this was her first time in custody.

She said Munnier began drinking to excess with a negative peer group in January, but hadn’t realised how serious her issues were until she spent time behind bars.

Magistrate Julie O’Donnell said it seemed she was a law-abiding citizen when not consuming alcohol.

“When she’s drinking, there’s the anger,” Ms O’Donnell said.

“There is no offending when she is sober.”

She said any repeat of such violence would mean she ended up behind bars.

Munnier was placed on an 18-month community corrections order with alcohol, drug and mental health counselling conditions.
