Real-life Grinch steals Christmas decorations from Skye family’s front yard

Mum Kelly Mudge dedicated hours to buying and handicrafting Christmas decorations for her two children, creating a dazzling display outside her Skye home. But days later when she went out to check them, there was nothing but darkness.

A real-life Grinch is on the loose after a Skye family’s front yard was stripped bare of beloved Christmas decorations.

Mother-of-two Kelly Mudge said she and her children have been left feeling devastated after heartless thieves allegedly plucked the festive additions from their McGowan Dr property yesterday.

The veterinary nurse says she will “never” put out her decorations again after she discovered her festive display, which included twinkling solar panel lights, handmade signs and candy canes, were nicked.

“I went out to check if they were working about 8pm and saw they were all gone,” she told the Leader.

“My four and six year old are devastated. I just want to know why someone would do something like this.”

Ms Mudge said it was not the first time decorations had been stolen from her property, with more signs taken two years ago.

“They were handmade signs I had made for the kids for Santa … all very sentimental (things)” she said.

“All of it has probably been chucked in the bin.”

Ms Mudge took to social media to warn other people about the Christmas culprits, with others recounting similar incidents in surrounding suburbs including Carrum.

“No wonder less people are putting them up …(I) had some of mine stolen a few years ago and also cut,” one person wrote.

“There are so many awesome lights on this year … it’s a real shame (and) makes people not want to do it.” another said.

Frankston Leading Sen-Constable Steve Caple dubbed the act as “lousy” but confirmed police were not investigating any incidents relating to stolen decorations.

“We haven’t heard anything yet,” he said.

“But taking Christmas lights is a pretty lousy thing to do … that’s a low act.”
