Two men have been arrested following an hour-long, high-speed police chase through Melbourne’s southeast from Narre Warren to Athlone.

Officers first spotted the duo in a Holden Caprice with allegedly false number plates in Narre Warren about 1am, where they evaded police and began zooming down the Princes Highway.

The air wing was called in to track the car as it continued along the Monash Freeway and Princes Highway, and through several towns including Cranbourne and Tooradin, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 150km/h.

The car eventually came to a stop on Drouin Korumburra Road in Athlone around 2am, where the duo got out and were arrested by police at the scene.

The two men, a 21-year-old from Pakenham and a 31-year-old from Long Gully, were taken into custody and are assisting police with their inquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
