CBD Stabbing: Man arrested after incident on Franklin and Elizabeth Streets

A man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a shop attendant who tried to stop him nicking an item from a CBD convenience store.

A man has been arrested hours after he allegedly stabbed a convenience store worker in Melbourne’s CBD and left him with serious injuries.

Police believe the man entered the store on the corner of Franklin and Elizabeth streets about 11.30pm on Wednesday and allegedly tried to steal an item.

He was confronted by the worker and a fight broke out between the pair, before the man allegedly pulled out a knife he was carrying, stabbed the worker and fled the scene.

Paramedics rushed to the store a short time later and the worker, a man in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

Police searched the area for the alleged attacker into the early hours of Thursday and arrested him on Elizabeth St about 3.30am.
