Frustrated Pearcedale neighbours want “urgent action” taken against hoons after speedsters ripped up a busy roundabout and continue to run amok.
Vin Jarrod, who has started a change.org petition to stop deadly hoon behaviour in the community, said he was angered by their “careless behaviour” which has been going on for more than a year.
Mr Jarrod said the hoons drive onto the roundabouts at Pearcedale Rd and Baxter Tooradin Rd and Smith’s Lane and Baxter Tooradin Rd and cause “absolute chaos” doing burnouts.
“Between April 18 to 19, they ripped up the grass at the Pearcedale Rd and Baxter Tooradin Rd roundabout – it was shocking.”
“I can also hear the burnouts at all hours of the night. – it’s deadly and I’m so scared someone will get seriously hurt,” he said.
He said he also witnessed hoons recklessly speeding in quiet suburban streets during school pick-up and drop-off hours.
“They speed up and down the streets and neighbours are so concerned as they do it at times when young children are walking to and from school.”
Mr Jarrod said he started the petition to call on police and Casey council to enforce safety measures.
“There should be steel barricades and shell grips installed to stop hoons drifting on the grass and around our roundabouts,” he said.
Casey Neighbourhood Watch president Rob Ward said he had been working closely with the community and the police.
“We’ve had two meetings about it last year and the police attended them both. The community are fed-up with the hoons – it’s dangerous,” Mr Ward said.
“We are very pleased with the police response and we’re working with them and the local community to be able to respond and map out when the hoons are attending Pearcedale,” Mr Ward said.
