A man who needed emergency brain surgery is lucky to be alive after he was savagely bashed during a wild brawl at Craigieburn Central shopping centre.
The victim and his younger brother were attacked by seven others in the carpark just after 8pm on November 9, 2018.
Both brothers were punched to the ground, and then kicked in the head during the 90-second attack which spilt onto the road.
The attack – which occurred in front of passing motorists and shocked onlookers – was captured on CCTV.
The victims and another brother went to Craigieburn police station about 90 minutes after the assault.
Police observed one of the victims was “unsteady on his feet”.
He was found to have bleeding on the brain after he was assessed at the Northern Hospital.
He was rushed to the Royal Melbourne for emergency brain surgery.
A doctor later said the man was “lucky to come through this ordeal and survive”.
Abdul Kassem, 20, Adam Saad, 21, and Mouhammed Aboueid, 21, were all sentenced in the County Court on April 29 for their roles in the brawl.
The three, as well as others involved in brawl, were arrested following a short police investigation.
Aboueid told police he found the brawl “entertaining” and the victim “just got outclassed in the fight”.
It is understood the attack was sparked three weeks earlier by a Snapchat photo which sent one attacker into a jealous rage.
Judge Michael O’Connell said the trio’s serious offending was “organised”.
“How easily someone might’ve been killed,” Judge O’Connell said.
“The violence quickly escalated … (You all) brazenly engaged in sickening violence directed at the victims.”
