A Patterson Lakes teenager has fronted court again over a string of luxury car thefts.

Nathan Morgan, 19, appeared at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on December 17 where he was sentenced to 90 days’ jail — equal to time served — and a one-year community corrections order for the theft of five cars, including a BMW, a Mercedes and a Porsche Cayenne, as well as for possessing thousands of dollars worth of stolen jewellery, stolen cash, unlicensed driving, drug possession and resist police.

The cars were stolen earlier this year predominantly from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs including Patterson Lakes, Glen Waverley and Vermont South, according to court documents.

Morgan’s defence counsel told the court his client suffered post traumatic stress disorder after being badly bullied at Berwick Secondary College, resulting in him using the drug ice and becoming a very troubled teenager.

Morgan was also the passenger in a stolen car that hit and killed a motorcyclist when he was a young teen, his defence counsel told the court, and this still weighed heavily on Morgan’s mind and contributed to his mental health issues that led him to “throw in the towel” and reoffend.

“Mr Morgan finds himself in a self-defeating situation,” his counsel told the court.

Magistrate Jan Maclean sentenced Morgan to time served and also ordered he undergo judicial monitoring as part of his community corrections order.

“To breach a community corrections order, the next step after that is imprisonment. I don’t want to see that happen to someone as young as you,” she said.
