A Highett man caught smashing the speed limit by more than 50km/h has been slammed by a magistrate over his dangerous driving.

Scott Davis pleaded guilty in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on October 10 to one charge of exceeding the speed limit by more than 50km/h in a 60km/h zone and one charge of driving with defective headlights.

Police saw Davis hooning on Dandenong Rd in Oakleigh East at 2am in early September, reaching 109 km/h, before seeing him pull into Wellington Rd at Monash University without his headlights on.

Following the interception Davis’ car was impounded for 30 days.

Appearing in court on Tuesday, Davis gave no reason for his offending.

Magistrate David Starvaggi took aim at Davis over his dangerous driving.

“Do you know how many families drive along that stretch of road? Did you consider the risk of hoons speeding in and weaving in and out of traffic like a sewing machine?’’ he said.

“If you collide with someone and hurt them, you’d be facing a County Court judge and probably be facing a couple of years’ jail.”

Davis was fined $500 without conviction and his licence was suspended for 12 months.
