DANDENONG Council says a hound owner left an 82-year-old woman battered and bruised on a Keysborough street after his dog allegedly attacked her.

The woman spent three weeks in hospital with a massive head gash, a broken knee, broken finger and extensive bruising on her face.

Dog owner Misha Xie appeared in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing local law charges.

He has not yet entered a plea.

Dandenong Council are alleging the man’s dog lunged at the woman, knocking her to the ground and causing severe injuries.

The court heard she was on her own walking down the Keysborough street at around 3.15pm on September 26 this year.

At the same time Mr Xie was walking his two dogs, a German shepherd and a bull terrier.

The council say the shepherd suddenly lunged at the woman, jumping on her, attacking her and pulling her to the ground.

She allegedly hit her head, causing a 100m by 80mm cut, and broke her knee and her finger.

The council is alleging Mr Xie simply collected his dogs and walked away without offering any assistance.

Witnesses came rushing to her aid and called an ambulance and the police.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she spent the next three weeks being treated for her widespread injuries.

Council officers tracked Mr Xie down to his home around 50m away and have seized the German shepherd.

In court the council prosecutor wanted to tender victim impact statements and “horrific” photos of her injuries, which she is still struggling to deal with.

Mr Xie objected to the statements — one from the woman and another from her daughter — saying “they could have been written by anyone”.

The council applied for an order to have the dog destroyed and also for pound costs of $1584.

Magistrate Pauline Spencer said the impact statements needed to be signed.

She adjourned the case until November 9.
