A “genius” move by a Mornington Peninsula butcher is making fresh meat available at the touch of a button.
Meat Heath Butchers at Blairgowries has just launched a meat vending machine, in what is believed to be a Victorian first.
The meat vendy allows customers to stock up everything from snags and sauce for the barbie to everything needed for a lamb roast dinner, including pre-cut vegies to pop in the oven.
It was a long held dream of butcher Heath McKenzie to install a vending machine at his Point Nepean Road business.
Fellow butcher Kate White said the move would make life “a lot easier” for the team of four working in the business.
“It gets pretty crazy over summer and we’re only a small team,” she said.
“Heath has wanted to put in a vending machine for years.”
The meat vendy was installed on Friday and has been well received by locals.
“We’ve had lots of great feedback,” Ms White said.
It has space for 14 different lines including condiments and eggs.
The items in the vending machine would cost the same as those sold in store.
Locals took to social media to celebrate the hi-tech addition to their town.
“Genius! Never knew I have the urge to BBQ at midnight until now,” one woman posted.
“Fresh meat at your fingertips, love it!” another said.
