A “silent angel” is on mission to show they “give a duck” about the residents of their small Mornington Peninsula town.
The quest involves leaving tiny resin ducks in letter boxes and on fences and cars around Tyabb.
The mysterious benefactor, dubbed “The Duck Lady” by locals, started gifting ducks about two weeks ago.
She has since been joined by four others who call themselves “duck mothers”.
Rose Lemon said the young woman behind the fun was a “silent angel, who lived to make others smile”.
“That’s it. That’s the reason she’s doing this and when she told me about her plan I had to be part of it,” Ms Lemon said.
“We give a duck about our town and its people and we also like to have a giggle.”
The philanthropic flock like to deliver their ducks under the cover of darkness, often leaving their gifts in the middle of the night.
But occasionally they break cover.
Jessica Stagoll is one of the lucky few to witness a delivery.
“I was sitting out the front with my friend enjoying the sunshine and I saw her stop and put something little on a neighbour’s letter box,” she said.
“I squealed and said ‘Oh my god! It’s the duck lady’.
“She giggled and smiled at us and put little ducks in our hands.”
Ms Stagoll said while she knew the woman’s face “from around town” she didn’t know her name.
“She told me she gets a little burst of joy every time she delivers a duck,” she said.
“It’s just so beautiful. It’s the epitome of the culture in this community.”
