Marina Prior does impromptu performance at Frankston Arts Centre

FRANKSTON’S concert of the year was classic case of the show must go on after a top performer became ill.

IT’S been dubbed Frankston’s concert of the year.

But a triple header featuring musical theatre sensations Silvie Paladino, Michael Cormack and Marina Prior was, in fact, a classic case of the show must go on.

Paladino was initially set to appear with fellow performer David Hobson at Frankston Arts Centre for two sold out shows.

When Hobson had to pull out at the last minute due to illness, the company behind the concerts — Promac Productions — went into high gear.

Promac head Chris McKenna quickly contacted Cormack and Prior, who readily agreed to step in and hit the stage with only few hours of rehearsal with Paladino.

“It was a rare and wonderful evening. It was a great night,” Mr McKenna said of the unexpected triple header.

“The gasps from the audience (when Prior came on the stage) were unbelievable.”

Mr McKenna said the trio incorporated comedy and laughs into the show.

Theatre patrons Michael and Teresa Harris, who attended the show, said people were initially disappointed when it was announced that Hobson could not attend.

“However, we were guaranteed a ‘couple of surprises’ and that the show must go on,” they said.

“Silvie appeared and sang most beautifully. After a couple of songs the amazingly talented Michael Cormack was introduced and both he and Silvie performed the next few songs brilliantly together.

“They told us all they knew we were disappointed that David couldn’t be here. Another couple of songs were performed both together and solo.

“Then our second surprise came with the introduction of the legend of opera and musical theatre — Marina Prior.

“The three of them together were truly magical.”

The couple described the show as a “real treat and a privilege”.
