A man kicked up a stink and punched his sister six times in the head after a fight occurred between his family and girlfriend over smelly garbage.

Beau O’Brien, 22, pleaded guilty at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court to one charge of unlawful assault.

The court heard O’Brien’s girlfriend and mother got into an argument over rubbish at an Endeavour Hills home in October 2020.

The argument turned physical with O’Brien’s girlfriend allegedly pushing his mum in the chest.

O’Brien’s sister became enraged by the incident and allegedly leapt towards the girlfriend with both of them falling to the ground.

O’Brien then punched his sister six times in the back of the head and pulled her hair.

His sister was taken to Dandenong Hospital after sustaining injuries to her head.

She was treated for symptoms of concussion and prescribed pain killers.

O’Brien’s lawyer Liz Noonan said the man acknowledged he went “too far”.

“It was a situation where he was trying to assist his partner at the time and it got out of hand,” she said.

Ms Noonan said O’Brien suffered depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder from a “significant incident” that happened to him when he was child.

O’Brien was placed on an adjourned undertaking for 12 months without conviction.
