A man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on a crowded bus following a university open day.
Police will allege the woman was travelling on the 733 bus, from Monash University to Clayton railway station, when she was sexually assaulted just before 4pm on Sunday, August 4.
“The bus was crowded, after leaving the university with an influx of passengers following an Open Day,” a police statement read.
The woman, who was unable to move due to bus being packed, was only helped when she became visibly upset.
Police will allege the male offender, who was sitting near the rear of the bus, continued to engage in sexually inappropriate conversations with other passengers.
He is further accused of making sexually inappropriate comments towards a teenager at the station.
“Witnesses have again stepped in and helped the victim who was left shaken and visibly upset,” police said.
Detectives have zeroed in on a suspect who is in a correctional facility for other unrelated matters.
