AN ALLEGED intruder who burgled a Springvale home while a young girl called police from a wardrobe has again been remanded in jail.

Ten-year-old Kate Luong was so frightened when a man broke into her family home she was left shaking and trembling.

But the brave child still managed to call police and guide them to the alleged thief.

On August 9 at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court, Hong-Ngoc Ly was remanded to appear again later this month.

He has been inside since his arrest in May, and appeared by video link.

He didn’t apply for bail.

The Springvale 46-year-old is accused of aggravated burglary, criminal damage, handling stolen goods and theft charges.

Court documents released in June revealed about 5.30pm on May 31 Kate was home alone, with her family having left to go and collect dinner.

She was in her bedroom when she saw a man prowling outside and heard the sound of smashing glass.

She quickly ran and hid in her wardrobe and called 000, guiding police to her door.

Officers arrived and saw the man inside the living room; he then did a runner through the back of the house.

He ran back inside before officers tackled him to the ground.

Back at the station Ly was searched and he was allegedly found with a stolen watch hidden down his pants, a screwdriver and a pocket knife.

He told investigators the luxury watch had been purchased for $10 from a man in a Dandenong street.

In court his lawyer said Ly’s case needed to be adjourned to the Dandenong Drug Court.

The drug court is a division of the magistrates that sentences and supervises offenders with a drug or alcohol dependency who have committed an offence while under the influence.

Magistrate Brian Clifford adjourned the case until August 16.
