A man who allegedly assaulted a cameraman outside a house in Melbourne’s west and crashed a stolen vehicle after dozing off says he “f-ked up”.
Josh Snow, 26, represented himself from behind the glass in a bail application, fronting up to charges at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Mr Snow has been charged with assault, intentionally causing injury, possessing meth, possessing prescription medication without prescription, possessing GBH, possessing a prohibited weapon, theft of motor vehicle, two charges of dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime, driving while disqualified, careless driving and driving while exceeding prescribed concentration of drugs.
On May 15, Mr Snow allegedly hit Channel 7 cameraman Damien Shine — who was filming outside a Melton South home — on the side of the head.
The cameraman left with non-life threatening injuries and no medical report was read out in court.
Mr Snow told the court he had come to the “defence of [his] brother” whom he believed was in an altercation with the cameraman at the time.
The night before, Mr Snow was spotted by police walking in Melton allegedly holding a hammer at about 10.45pm.
Police allegedly found 0.6g of meth in his bum bag at the time.
Mr Snow then found himself in trouble with police on Wednesday May 24 after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle into a parked car on Bignell Rd, Bentleigh East, having allegedly falling asleep at the wheel.
The court heard Mr Snow admitted to police that he had drifted off, knew the car was stolen and there were drugs present.
Police allegedly found 1g of meth in the car, while Mr Snow allegedly returned a positive test for the substance.
He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Wednesday.
Mr Snow disputed parts of the summary, read out by informant senior constable Peter Simpson, around his interview with police after he was arrested on Wednesday.
He said police “only wrote the parts they wanted to hear” from the interview about his circumstances in the lead up and that he had “taken responsibility for [his] actions”.
While Magistrate Luisa Bazzani said she “appreciated [his] honesty” during the bail application, she did not buy his claim that he took responsibility.
“Taking responsibility is not taking drugs and driving a car you knew was stolen...what if there had been someone in the parked car, or someone crossing the road?” she said.
Ms Bazzani refused Mr Snow’s application for bail.
The case has been adjourned to return to Moorabbin at a later date.
