A Cranbourne dad who kept a stash of meth hidden in his six- month-old son’s bedroom has avoided a jail sentence.

Joseph Rosse, 24, was sentenced to a two year corrections order in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday following a string of crimes dating back to 2019 including drug offences and attacking two police officers.

Magistrate Costas Kilias heard Rosse punched two police officers after he refused to get off his motorbike during an intercept near Cranbourne McDonald’s on November 25, 2019.

Rosse wrestled with one officer and punched him the head before striking the other in the face when he attempted to intervene about 7.45pm.

Rosse ran off along Camms Rd but was identified when a friend called his mobile phone which he left at the scene.

A search at Rosse’s Cranbourne North property three weeks later uncovered bags of ice, ammunition, a double-edged sword, multiple mobile phones, power tools, steroids, Viagra, a stolen motorbike and driver’s licences with various names.

Three bags of ice and five mobile phones were found in Rosse’s six-month-old son’s bedroom.

Rosse’s lawyer told the court her client, who began using ice daily at 18, was now attending church regularly and living with his partner and child.

He has also completed further eduction in psychology and science.

“ (Rosse) has returned to the life that he had previously,” the defence said.

Rosse, who had already spent four months on remand before he was bailed, pleaded guilty to charges including theft from motor vehicle.

He was convicted and also ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid community work, 100 hours of which can be served through personal rehabilitative programs.
