Jikany Puoch, 29, fronted the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on August 12 facing charges including two charges of intentionally cause injury, recklessly using a 5mm knife to stab (a person) in the chest placing person in danger of death, recklessly causing injury, possessing a prohibited weapon and criminal property damage.
Appearing from the docks in police custody, Mr Puoch – of Berwick – wore a white plastic jumpsuit.
After allegedly attacking two people outside the Lyall Rd Woolworths in Berwick on Sunday afternoon, Mr Puoch was restrained in a citizens’ arrest before police arrived at the scene.
One 24-year-old Cranbourne North man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
A 77-year-old Berwick man was also injured after he intervened, allegedly to subdue Mr Puoch.
He was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In court on Monday, Mr Puoch’s lawyer Nina Hoang asked for a seven day adjournment, after he didn’t want to apply for bail.
She said she was seeking the adjournment to make proper submissions for Mr Puoch.
The court heard it was his first time in custody and he was likely withdrawing from drugs and alcohol.
Ms Hoang said her client had an “official diagnosis of depression and PTSD”.
“He has also has a potential shoulder injury from the arrest,” she said.
Magistrate Jacinta Studham ordered Mr Puoch be seen by custodial nurses in the interim period.
Ms Studham adjourned the matter for one week.
Mr Puoch will appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court via video-link on August 19.
