A Bentleigh woman accused of drug dealing and using stolen identities to steal rental cars has been banned from contacting her boyfriend, a court has heard.

Cleo Yerolemis, 26, was granted bail on the conditions she sleep at her mum’s house and didn’t associate with her boyfriend of a year, Jordan Findlay, when she went before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 26.

The unemployed Deakin University graduate had been arrested with him in Montmorency the night before while on bail for drug and deception matters.

The court heard police saw the pair in a Kia that had stolen number plates about 9pm, before the two were spotted travelling in an Uber shortly after, only 300m from where the Kia had been left.

When police stopped the Uber and asked to see the couple’s IDs, Yerolemis allegedly used a torch to search in her handbag, allowing officers to see she was allegedly carrying ice pipe and gloves.

The court heard she was then arrested for handling and receiving stolen goods after police found a series of items in the Kia.

Leading Senior Constable Lee-anne Meade told the court Yerolemis was on bail for a series of matters, and had 36 charges against her since July 2019, including drug and dishonesty offences and theft of and from motor vehicles.

The court heard she allegedly used a woman’s licence and bank card, which had been stolen in an aggravated burglary, to hire rental cars which were never returned and later found equipped with fake number plates.

Police allegedly found one of the cars outside a Greensborough property where they arrested her in June 2019.

Leading Sen-Constable Meade said police allegedly found a safe in the boot of the car, which was opened with a key found inside Yerolemis’ handbag, and found it contained meth, ecstasy, and a series of licences, bank cards and Medicare cards in various names.

She said police then went on Yerolemis’ phone and found she had allegedly sent and received texts about drug trafficking.

The prosecution told the court she seemed to be allegedly committing offences when she was around Findlay.

Magistrate Helen Murphy was presented with a letter from her family, saying they would strictly monitor her behaviour if she was bailed.

Ms Murphy told a crying Yerolemis she needed to abide by her bail conditions, which included not associating with Findlay, if she didn’t want to be incarcerated amid the pandemic.

“You are clearly an intelligent young woman with a bright future ahead of you if you can get your drug issues under control,” Ms Murphy said.
