A teenager accused of stealing a cricketer’s wallet, burgling a house while a young girl was home and shoulder-charging a police officer in a series of drug-fuelled crimes has faced court.
Zach Aldis is also accused of stealing cash from an ex-girlfriend’s bank account, being caught with a bong and dope hidden in his underpants and using a stolen card to buy fuel.
The 19-year-old appeared at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on August 5 to apply for bail.
He had been remanded in custody the day before after he was found at his parent’s Frankston South home.
When he was searched police allegedly discovered a bong and a small amount of cannabis in his underwear.
At the time he was on bail for attempted aggravated burglary, drugs, theft and handling stolen goods-related charges.
In April Mr Aldis allegedly walked into an unlocked Frankston South house opposite his mother’s home and tried to steal an iPad, watches and a purse.
A 14-year-old girl inside the home at the time smelt his cologne, and, armed with a knife, she chased him way.
When police found him at his mum’s a short while later they say he shoulder-charged one officer before other members managed to restrain him.
He was on bail at the time for allegedly going into a Baden Powell Reserve dressing room in Frankston South and stealing a cricketer’s wallet containing cash and cards in October last year.
Mr Aldis allegedly then went straight to a Frankston pub, blew the money on pokies and used the cards to buy cigarettes.
Police also allege since February this year he had repeatedly taken money from his Mornington ex-girlfriend’s bank by transferring a total of $1158 to his own account.
And in March he is accused of using a stolen fuel card in Frankston to buy petrol before running away from police and jumping on a car, breaking the windscreen.
Police opposed his bail application because they said his “behaviour had been unmanageable” and his drug addiction would likely lead to more offending.
His defence lawyer said he had his family’s support and a bed was available at a private rehabilitation clinic to help him with his substance abuse issues.
Magistrate Timothy Gattuso said Mr Aldis was a 19-year-old with no priors, many of these alleged crimes were not punishable by jail and he had strong parental support.
He said he was considering bailing him to the rehabilitation clinic and adjourned the case until November.
