A junior basketball coach became a one-man wrecking machine when he went on a drunken rampage after a 21st birthday party causing $33,000 in damages at a Frankston leisure centre before attacking police.
Lachlan Ebsworth, 22, faced the Frankston Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to breaking into and damaging the Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) last year.
The court heard that in October last year Ebsworth had been at a 21st birthday party at Frankston’s Grand Hotel where he had been excessively drinking before wandered off and kicked in an access door at the centre.
Ebsworth hit an overhead sign, damaging the plaster, smashed a glass wall near a yoga studio, broke off a large anti theft device from near the doorway before damaging a fire hose.
Frightened cleaning staff were forced to hide and call the police.
When police arrived they told Ebsworth to get on the ground but Ebsworth shaped up, became aggressive, swearing at the officers telling them to “f--- off”.
The court heard he threw punches at an officer and caused a tussle before sprayed him with capsicum spray.
Ebsworth told police when he was arrested he thought he was still at the Grand Hotel and that he must have gotten drunk and “done some silly things”.
The court heard the Langwarrin was a coach for a local junior basketball team as well as playing the sport himself.
The apprentice roof plumber was handed a good behaviour bond of 15 months and ordered to pay $750 to the court fund.
He will also have to pay $10,000 in compensation to PARC.
