Cowes fatal: young man dead after crash on grand final weekend

A 19-year-old man has died in a car crash on Phillip Island and the 18-year-old driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

A man has been charged after a crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old on Saturday night.

An 18-year-old man from St Kilda was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old Cowes man.

It is believed a vehicle lost control before crashing into a tree at the intersection of Millennium Way and Justice Rd just after 11.30pm.

Five males were in the car at the time of the crash.

One of the passengers, a 19-year-old man from Cowes died at the scene.

The driver and three other males were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
