The court heard Kilpatrick and an unknown person entered their victim’s home about 4am on June 11, 2016.
The victim told them to leave but was attacked with a steel pole after he threatened to call police.
He ran up the stairs where he and his girlfriend heard the invaders move about the house as they hid.
They came out of hiding to discover two iPhones and two laptops were missing.
Police raided Kilpatrick’s Doveton home and recovered a Samurai sword and 51 pink steroid tablets but did not find any of the stolen items.
Kilpatrick was arrested and bailed to appear at court but he failed to show.
When the matter was eventually heard Kilpatrick initially denied any involvement but later pleaded guilty.
Kilpatrick was a star junior footballer who played for the Dandenong Stingrays but never realised his dream of playing in the AFL.
He was a paid player at the Doveton Eagles until he was 28 but also developed an ice addiction.
In 2016, he was placed on a community corrections order for making a threat to kill and intentionally damaging property from a dispute with his former partner.
Judge Liz Gaynor sentenced Kilpatrick in November to time already served (345 days) and placed him on an 18-month community corrections order.
She commended him for showing good signs of rehabilitation while in prison and his amicable relationship with his former partner and son.
However, she warned if he was caught “knocking off a box of matches from Woolworths” then he will be in breach of his order.
