A former Australian soldier and self-proclaimed neo-Nazi has fronted court after a counter-terrorism unit uncovered handmade guns at his home.

Jake Schultz, 30, pleaded guilty in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on March 8 to multiple charges ranging from drug driving to illegally possessing weapons, including two homemade revolvers.

In court on Friday, Schultz’s lawyer Richard Barton gave his submissions in the second part of the plea hearing, following the prosecution's submissions in late February.

“Mr Schultz didn’t have a job prior to joining the army and he hasn’t had one since being discharged,” he said.

“He’s had issues with drug addiction and wants to be released into a medical facility for drug rehabilitation and mental health monitoring.”

The court heard Schultz had been in custody since August 23 last year, totalling almost 200 days behind bars.

Schultz’s Tooradin home was raided on January 13 in 2022 by the Special Operations Group, where they uncovered two homemade revolvers, knuckle dusters, several rounds of ammunition and white supremacist propaganda strewn throughout the property.

Schultz told police in interview that he was a “neo-Nazi”, and needed two homemade revolvers to “protect himself”.

Schultz made full admissions to the material in interview with police, saying he had the homemade revolvers and other weapons for “self defence.”

“I made it, for when the Japs or the Chinese come running from the f-----g sky one day,” he said.

“I’m a neo-Nazi, f-----g oath.”

The court also heard Schultz pleaded guilty to several assault, drug and driving related charges, including once instance where he had a violent altercation with his next door neighbour and threatened to kill him.

Magistrate Christina Windisch indicated she would hand down a combination sentence on a later date after Schultz is assessed for a community corrections order.

The matter was adjourned to March 14.
