A man almost five times the legal alcohol limit who wedged his car onto a railway line in Melbourne’s southeast this morning claims he was on his way to visit his kids for Christmas.

A man almost five times the legal alcohol limit who wedged his car onto a railway line in Melbourne’s southeast this morning claims he was on his way to visit his children for Christmas.
The 38-year-old driver from Safety Beach was spotted by police trying to drive his ute off Reid Parade and onto the Stony Point railway line just before midnight.

His car became stuck and had to be removed by a tow truck.
The driver was taken to Mornington Police Station where he returned a breath test of 0.243.
His licence was suspended immediately and a suspension notice will be served on his vehicle.
When police asked the man where he was going, he said he was off to visit his children for Christmas Day.
The intercept was part of the statewide Operation Roadwise, with police targeting drink and drug driving, speed, distraction, fatigue and failure to wear restraints and will run until January 6.
