Drug buyer bashed before leading cops on pursuit in mum’s vehicle with no licence, cannabis in car

It wasn’t a good night for a dope smoker as he was beat up by his dealers and then went on a ‘panicked’ police pursuit in his mum’s car. His day in court didn’t go too well either.

Wiremu Jones got bashed by drug dealers and then went on a police pursuit in his mum’s car.

A cannabis customer who got bashed by his dealers before embarking on a police pursuit in his mum’s car has been told to wise up or he’ll be “slotted” in jail.

Wiremu Jones, who has rap sheet of drug and driving priors, told a disbelieving magistrate that he still loves to smoke marijuana at least once a month.

The Endeavour Hills 28-year-old was advised he had better give up the grass completely or he’ll need to “bring a toothbrush” next time he appeared in court.

Jones pleaded guilty to charges of evading police, unlicensed driving and drug possession at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 17.

The court heard at around 9pm on February 2 this year Jones was in a car parked at Barry J Powell Reserve in Noble Park North when a witness heard a commotion and called police.

Jones had tried to buy some cannabis, but there was an altercation with the sellers and he drove off.

Police arrived and pulled up behind his car in Halton Rd, but he ignore their lights and sirens and drove down several side roads before eventually stopping in Meredith St.

Officers found he had no licence and he looked anxious and nervous, so they searched his car.

In the vehicle, which actually belongs to his mum, they uncovered a small satchel with a zip lock bag inside containing cannabis.

He admitted possessing the marijuana and said he was “scared” after he was set upon by the drug dealers and he had freaked out when he saw police.

Despite having bloodshot eyes and a glazed look on his face, he passed alcohol and oral fluid tests and wasn’t charged with drug or drink-driving.

The unemployed bricklayer represented himself in court, saying he “panicked” after his drug buy went wrong.

“I was assaulted on the night by three guys, they used weapons,” Jones said.

“I didn’t want to stop for police because I was worried and wanted to get home.”

Jones told the court he had done courses and stopped drinking alcohol, but still used cannabis once a month.

Magistrate Costas Kilias was amazed when he heard this, saying Jones really needed to “rid himself of the crutch of using drugs”.

“You need to have a good look at yourself, get control of your life,” Mr Kilias said.

“If you come back before me, bring a toothbrush, I’ll jail you, I’ll slot you.”

Jones was convicted and fined $2000 and banned from driving for six months.
