Owner Daniel Bartalotta said he decided to expand the vegan range after being inspired by his sister, Nakea.
“My sister is vegan and she always loved the look of our doughnuts but could never eat them,” Mr Bartalotta said.
“Our most popular doughnut is the cream and jam — it’s been a real hit with customers.”
He said the range was so popular, hungry vegans were travelling hours across Melbourne to snare a box.
“The demand for our vegan range has been huge — they taste very similar to non-vegan doughnuts and we don’t use eggs, milk — it’s all plant-based fillings.”
He said the doughnuts took about five hours to make.
“We use high-end ingredients and even though they take longer to cook — we don’t charge extra for them.”
Mr Bartalotta said people were travelling from New Zealand, Tasmania and even Singapore to try his whole doughnut range.
“I’d like to thank the community for their ongoing support over the years — we do our best to keep the quality high and the price low.”
Daniel’s Donuts has stores in Springvale, Carnegie and Port Arlington.
