Goldelucks prepares to open new shop in Patterson Lakes

They’ve been called the best doughnuts you can get, with people queuing from 5.30am to get their hands on them. And now the cult bakery that makes them is preparing to open its next Melbourne store.

CULT doughnut shop Goldelucks is continuing to make waves on the baking scene, preparing to open its second outlet in just three months.

The new shop will be in Patterson Lakes at the busy Lakeview Shopping Centre.

It joins the original Croydon South venue, an Eastland shop and a recently opened pop-up at Westfield Doncaster.

Goldelucks also has an online shop that delivers edible gift boxes including doughnut bouquets Melbourne-wide from its Collingwood office.

Creator Phillip Kuoch said the rapid rise of the business was “humbling”.

“I certainly didn’t expect it when I took over Goldelucks Bakery four years ago,” he said.

“I was a uni student with no baking or business management experience.

“I would apply the lessons I was learning in my undergrad journalism and marketing degree to the business.”

The Keysborough man started making doughnuts at the original bakery and before long was selling 100 a day.

“Then we came up with the dossant (a doughnut croissant hybrid) and people were queuing from 5.30am to get their hands on them,” he said.

Mr Kuoch said he was a visual person who focused on how his creations looked, before developing flavours.

“I get ideas in the strangest places. I’ll be having brunch and see something and it will lead to my next creation,” he said.

One of those creations was the HSP Doughnut Pack.

“It’s basically a sweet version of a Halal Snack Pack (doner kebab meat and chips with chilli, garlic and barbecue sauces),” Mr Kuoch said.

It comprises doughnut holes drizzled with milk and white chocolate and Nutella sauce and sprinkled with Tim Tam crumbs and Smarties.

Possibly his wackiest creation — a giant gold chocolate heart filled with 1kg of Nutella — came from something he saw in a New York Bakery.

The heart is only available online, but all the other Goldelucks will be sold at the Patterson Lakes venue.

Mr Kuoch also planned to add some other popular items from the original bakery to the menu at the new shop.

“We’ll definitely have bagels there as well as coffee and pies,” he said.

The Patterson Lakes shop opens at 9am on Friday at 29A/102-114 Gladesville Blvd (next to Pizza Hut).

But if you’re patient you can score a free doughnut from noon on Saturday, April 27.

Mr Kuoch said to celebrate the new location he’d give away a doughnut to the first 100 people to share the launch event on Facebook.

There will be 50 OG Glaze Doughnuts and 50 vegan jam doughnuts available with a limit of one doughnut per person.
