A building company boss has faced court after his Louis Vuitton gift to his girlfriend backfired badly.

Daniel Millwood was bitter after his relationship finished and somehow the handbag, which was stolen in a burglary at her property, ended up at his house.

Cops were called and when they raided his Seaford home they also uncovered an array of illicit substances and an illegal weapon.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods, drugs and weapons possessions charges at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

He was not charged with burglary or theft and it was not made clear exactly how the handbag made its way to his abode.

The court heard Millwood’s former girlfriend’s house was burgled on November 21 last year and a brown Louis Vuitton handbag was taken.

The theft was reported to police, followed a few days later by a raid on Millwood’s home.

They found the bag, small quantities of ice and ecstasy, six Xanax pills, a bud of cannabis and some knuckledusters.

He was arrested, and after serving 30 hours in the slammer, given bail.

His defence lawyer said Millwood had purchased the bag for the woman during their relationship, but when it ended there was “bitterness”.

He said his client had no prior convictions of any kind and was at the time “in the throes of drug addiction” which was “now well and truly over”.

He said his time spent in the cells was “a blessing in disguise of sorts” that had provided the wakeup call he needed.

Magistrate Dr Michael King said the handbag incident was “an act of dishonesty”.

“You were dealing with things in a negative way,” Dr King said.

“You need to manage your emotions more constructively.”

But he said since then Millwood had made big steps to treat his drug issues.

“At the time you were in a spiral, so to speak, heading downwards,” he said.

“You have used this opportunity to get clarity in your life and made commitments to address your underlying issues.”

Millwood was placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond with a condition he continues drug treatment with his doctor. No conviction was recorded.
