Footage has emerged of a man covering a CCTV camera with packaging from a barbecue tray before a robbery in Dandenong North.

Police have released footage captured by the camera in the rear garage of the home at Bellbird Drive, as they continue to chase down those involved in the incident.

The man approached the camera at 2.44am on December 3 and immediately began to tamper with it, changing its direction and appearing to pull out a wire.

He then grabs the cardboard label from a barbecue tray package and places it in front of the camera to partially block its vision before walking away.

Investigators believe the man then broke into a shed at the home, removed items and placed them in a nearby street to come back and collect.

The items were never collected, but officers later recovered a stolen car which could have been used in the burglary.

The man captured on the camera, who police wish to speak to, has been described as having a thin build and was wearing a Nike beanie, a light-coloured T-shirt, shorts and a short-sleeve vest.

Anyone with information in relation to the burglary can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
